Rahson “Dris” Butler
Long Beach, from the beginning
Rahson grew up in Long Beach and came up in the city’s hip-hop culture. He was performing by nine and writing his own lyrics by twelve. With neighborhood friend Kayoz he formed Brain Stalkers, a group that drew a contract offer from Columbia Records.
As a young person he was around KMD, the original group of the late MF DOOM, Chuck D, and other local artists.
Back to the city, and into the work
After hard years as a teenager and young adult, he returned to Long Beach and built through creativity and entrepreneurship. He curated fashion shows and concerts in the city, connecting models with major Black brands and partnering with artists, so younger Black residents could see themselves in their own community.
Music, film, and the work that traveled
The work expanded into music videos, film, writing, and production. He developed concepts and treatments and directed his own projects, incorporating theatrical storytelling and visual elements. That work led to opportunities with Lil Durk, Murda Mook, Reek Da Villain, French Montana, and AR-Ab.
Rahson has longstanding working relationships with members of the Wu-Tang Clan. He is featured on Ghostface Killah’s platinum album Supreme Clientele 2. He is a partner in the Yapp City brand, Co-CEO of Yapp City Records with Ghostface Killah, and executive producer of Ghostface Killah Presents YAPP CITY, scheduled for early 2027.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame named the Wu-Tang Clan to its 2026 class of inductees.
Kenan Thompson
Rahson has a professional creative relationship with Kenan Thompson, the longest-tenured Saturday Night Live cast member, who joined in 2003. Rahson was developing storytelling and screenwriting with Thompson and Thompson’s friend, designer Taadow, and those relationships pushed him further into screenwriting.
He was involved in creating KMD–MF DOOM Way, honoring his late friend MF DOOM and the Long Beach roots of that artist. This petition is in that same civic tradition.
This is about giving flowers to a man who inspired me to believe in my talents and chase my dreams… He would speak life into me every time we crossed paths.

Business, study, and the next person up
Rahson owns DNA Alkaline Water and is founder and CEO of DRIS Entertainment (production, direction, screenwriting). He holds a Ph.D. from Good Life Christian University. In 2025 he received an honorary Ph.D. in Business and Leadership and a Lifetime Achievement Award.
His purpose: creative outlets, mentorship, entrepreneurship, music, performing arts, and filmmaking, for people from Long Beach and beyond.
Let Rahson smell the flowers while he is here. Let him see that his journey, his contributions, and his commitment to others matter. Most importantly, let him take those flowers and pass their seeds to the next generation. From the committee’s proposal
